Description and Content
This class will explore ancient civilizations and early forms of government. Be prepared to use textbooks, computers, videos, and research materials to participate in class discussions. This class will focus on Asia, Africa and the Middle East and Europe.
Grading
Academic grades are based on proficiency of standards (tests, quizzes, and select standards-based assignments), which will show how well your student understands the current concept. This grade will be their “Skills” grade. The percentage of points earned will be assigned a letter grade as follows:
A = 90%-100%
B = 80%-89%
C = 70%-79%
D = 60%-69%
F = Below 60%
A Work Habits grade will be earned based on the quality and completion of an interactive notebook, class work and homework, as well as participation in class. A citizenship grade will be earned based on behavior and the number of tardies per six week grading period.
The “Work Habits” and “Citizenship” grades will be assigned as follows:
O Outstanding
S Satisfactory
N Needs Improvement
U Unsatisfactory
Assignments
Students are expected to have all work completed and ready to hand in at the beginning of class on the day it is due. All work is to be turned in on time. Schoolwork is important for student success and I ask for parent support in making it a top priority.
Make-up Work
Students are responsible for making sure they acquire make-up work when absent. Students are expected to turn in make-up work no more than one week from the assigned date. Exceptions for extenuating circumstances will be made on a case by case basis.
Behavior Expectations
All members of the classroom community are expected to act in a respectful manner and follow all Leslie school policies. Students who behave in a way that does not follow these guidelines will follow the process outlined below until the behavior is corrected:
All students are required to come prepared to each class with a pencil, their student planner and their binder. These resources are essential for student success and will be used daily.
